Captain Jack: You secretly fight crime, is that it, Tosh? Toshiko: I didn’t want it to look like I was showing off.
Character: Toshiko Sato Fandom: Torchwood PB: Naoko Mori
Biography: Toshiko Sato is the Torchwood Three’s resident technical genius and computer expert, born in the UK and raised in Osaka, and very proud of her Japanese heritage.
With her parents both in the Royal Air Force, and her grandfather working at Bletchley Park, the World War II code-breaking facility, it isn't particularly surprising that Toshiko joined a government scientific 'think-tank' after graduating with honours from the University of Cambridge.
A few years later, she was one of the people called upon when an alien space craft crashed into Big Ben. She was given the task of dissecting the alien driver, but didn’t get the chance, as it was soon running around her laboratory. When a mysterious stranger, calling himself ‘the Doctor’ appeared on the scene, they examined the body together, and Toshiko was astonished to learn that the so-called alien was a pig which had been adapted using advanced technology
Naturally, this created more questions than it answered, but the Doctor vanished before Tosh had a chance to ask any of them.
The next day, Captain Jack Harkness offered her a job at Torchwood. She accepted without a second thought.
Both extremely proud and highly passionate about her work, Toshiko often appears uptight, but she is actually very sensitive (perhaps even a little too sensitive). She is quiet and focused, and an expert at analysing alien technology with an advanced understanding of physics in any form.
Despite the fact that she doesn’t always feel as if she fits in with them, Toshiko cares deeply about her team mates.
